Book Description

In the compulsively readable follow-up to her widely acclaimed debut novel, You, Caroline Kepnes weaves a tale that Booklist calls “the love child of Holden Caulfield and Patrick Bateman.”

Hidden Bodies marks the return of a voice that Stephen King described as original and hypnotic, and through the divisive and charmingly sociopathic character of Joe Goldberg, Kepnes satirizes and dissects our culture, blending suspense with scathing wit.

Joe Goldberg is no stranger to hiding bodies. In the past ten years, this thirty-something has buried four of them, collateral damage in his quest for love. Now he’s heading west to Los Angeles, the city of second chances, determined to put his past behind him.

In Hollywood, Joe blends in effortlessly with the other young upstarts. He eats guac, works in a bookstore, and flirts with a journalist neighbor. But while others seem fixated on their own reflections, Joe can’t stop looking over his shoulder. The problem with hidden bodies is that they don’t always stay that way. They re-emerge, like dark thoughts, multiplying and threatening to destroy what Joe wants most: truelove. And when he finds it in a darkened room in Soho House, he’s more desperate than ever to keep his secrets buried. He doesn’t want to hurt his new girlfriend—he wants to be with her forever. But if she ever finds out what he’s done, he may not have a choice...

My Thoughts

Joe Goldberg. Oh My. The more Joe I read, the more I need, the more fascinating he becomes. Why? I have never came across a character like him. I know, he has a twisted mind, he does horrible things, he kills people but in a very unique way Joe is Joe, a human who makes mistakes and one who does not give up that easily and again, in a very twisted way but he is capable of loving, yes he is.

Hidden Bodies, the sequel of Caroline Kepnes debut novel, You, continues the story of Joe Goldberg, a bookseller from New York who in this sequel falls in love with Amy, who he thinks is finally the right girl, the love of her life but Amy betrays him, steels some books from him, leaves him and goes to Los Angeles. Joe, hungry for revenge, leaves New York and goes to LA to find Amy and kill her but little Joe knew what he was going to find in LA and how his plans were going to change dramatically. In LA Joe comes up with a plan to find Amy, meets new people, gets a job but along the way he meets Love and that is when everything changes, Love changes Joe and Amy is no longer his priority.

I dont want to spoil the book for those who have not read it. I will just say if you read You  and liked it, you should definitely pick this one.

In terms of the book, the story, I couldn't put it down. I just wanted to keep reading and know what was going to happen next. This is the kind of book that makes you want to know more about the characters, a story which I felt totally invested in. I like how every chapter is not that long, just the right length. I like the dialogues and how every character brings something to the story. I love Caroline Kepnes writing style. I think the way she tells her stories is fascinating. The characters are so different. I also love how the Author uses Pop Culture references in the book like Fast and Furious, which by the way is one of my favorite movies. I think all these references work really well in the story.

What I did not like, well, I did not like the story came to an end but given the ending which in my opinion is an open ending,  I think and I hope we will hear more about Joe Goldberg soon.

Overall, I love Hidden Bodies. A fantastic sequel, great plot, well- developed characters, a few unexpected twists, a book that catches your attention from the beginning to the end. Caroline Kepnes is now one of my favorite Authors and I cant wait to read more of her books.
